  • Remuneration: $113,926 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading

Details of the role

The Senior Higher Degree Research (HDR) Coordinator for the Faculty of Medicine and Health is responsible for providing effective assistance to the HDR Manager in leading operational activities and supporting strategic initiatives related to the HDR lifecycle across the Faculty. The role ensures the consistent execution of all aspects of postgraduate research student administration across schools, centres, and institutes, while maintaining a high standard of service and support.

This position requires strong people management skills, including the ability to lead and support a small team. The Senior (HDR) Coordinator works collaboratively with another Senior HDR Coordinator to ensure cohesive and efficient operations. They engage with a variety of stakeholders, such as academic staff, including conjoint appointees and clinicians, and other professional staff from UNSW Divisions and Faculties. The role also demands adaptability in response to changes in university policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and continuity in HDR processes across the Faculty.

The Senior HDR Coordinator reports to the HDR Manager and has direct reports.

Some key skills required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Lead a team of Higher Degree Research Coordinators (HDRC) to coordinate HDR administration across assigned schools, centres and institutes and in supporting the delivery of Faculty support programs for HDR candidates.
  • Provide guidance and training to HDRCs and other relevant staff where required.
  • Act as an escalation point to seek resolution on specific matters raised by HDRCs, bringing these to the attention of the Higher Degree Research (HDR) Manager as appropriate.
  • Provide proactive assistance to the Associate Dean (Research Training) and HDR Manager to coordinate Faculty and School projects related to the HDR program, including development and delivery of workshops, communications, marketing materials, events and other initiatives to enhance student experience.
  • In consultation with the HDR Manager, lead the development, implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures to ensure a consistent approach for general HDR administration and support/lead process-improvement projects from conception to implementation.
  • Coordinate all aspects of postgraduate research administration for researchers in schools, centres and institutes, delivering an efficient support service to students and supervising academics across enrolment, scholarships, progression and graduation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, influence and guide staff.
