We are currently recruiting for 3 x Research Assistants within the School of Materials Science & Engineering. The Research Assistant will provide technical and research support for the UNSW–Grace Energy collaborative project on developing a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) applications. The role will focus on supporting research activities across battery energy storage systems (BESS), and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Working closely with UNSW researchers and industry partners, the Research Assistant will contribute research activities to advance the VPP prototype and associated commercialization pathways. 

This role will:

  • Liaise with stakeholders in the preparation of ethics and grant applications, abstracts, annual and progress reports.
  • Undertake unsupervised research support tasks consistent with established methodologies (may include lab or field work).
  • Perform data collection entry, and analysis.
  • Maintain research databases, records and publication registers.
  • Conduct statistical data reporting.
  • Organise fieldwork arrangements.
  • Monitor project deliverables and schedules to ensure timelines are being met
  • Communicate with project team members via email, telephone or MS Teams on project related matters and action items.
  • Arrange room bookings and meeting peripherals
  •  Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Completion of a degree.
  • Prior experience supporting a research project.
  • Strong level of computer literacy with strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office software and other applications or systems/databases.
