Why Your Role Matters:
The Lecturer in Interpreting/Translation will have demonstrated experience in teaching Interpreting and/or Translation at tertiary level, through language-specific and multi-lingual teaching. This role requires familiarity with the most recent research and teaching methods in the discipline.
The position also requires active participation in research and publications, as well as HDR supervision. The successful applicant will have practical professional experience as an interpreter and/or translator and NAATI certification or equivalent.
The role of Lecturer reports to Head of School and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities Summary:
- Conduct on-campus and online classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
- Design and develop learning activities and resources and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
- Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team and design research projects.
- Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs
- Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and NAATI certification.
- Make a positive contribution to School meetings and seminars and be a member of School/Faculty committees as required.

Skills and Experience Summary:
- A PhD in Interpreting or Translation Studies, and work experience as interpreter and/or translator.
- NAATI certification in Interpreting and/or Translation in English and one of the following languages: Mandarin, Indonesian, Russian or Spanish.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
- A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry (for example being an AUSIT member).
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
- Evidence of ability to supervise research students to completion.
- Experience using and/or designing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
