Why your role matters
The Head of Analytics (Student Experience) is a newly established position within the Division of Education and Student Experience, responsible for creating a centralised analytics function and centre of excellence. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight of divisional data and analytics initiatives that enable evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
The position will design and implement robust frameworks for data analysis and visualisation to generate actionable insights that enhance student experience, performance, satisfaction, engagement, and operational effectiveness. It will also lead the development of a cohesive and strategic approach to business intelligence, promoting a data-informed culture and driving innovation in analytics and insights across the Division.
The Head of Analytics (Student Experience) will collaborate with senior stakeholders across Faculties, Schools, and Divisions to influence strategic direction and shape initiatives that improve the UNSW student experience. The role will work closely with existing data and analytics functions across the University, including University Performance and Planning, the DVC Academic Quality Educational Insights team, the Chief Data Officer, and the Learning Analytics team within the PVCE portfolio.
This position reports to the Director of Operations and will manage a team of direct reports.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:  
- Establish and centralised student experience analytics function and centre of excellence, building foundational capabilities and long-term vision.
 
- Lead and develop a high-performing analytics team, fostering innovation and professional growth.
 
- Develop and implement rigorous processes for the analysis and insights of divisional student experience data.
 
- Translate complex data and insights into compelling visual narratives, reports, papers and/or dashboards for leadership and operational teams.
 
- Drive a data-informed culture across the division, promoting evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
 
About You:   
- A degree in a relevant field such as data science, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and extensive experience.
 
- Proven experience in data analysis, preferably in higher education or customer experience, and demonstrated ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and compelling visual narratives.
 
- Proficiency in data management, statistical analysis tools, and familiarity with current coding techniques and approaches.
 
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, research, and problem-solving skills. including strong report writing and documentation skills and demonstrated ability to summarise complex material effectively and present key issues for a wide range of audiences.
 
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated success in developing and motivating teams.
 
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to ensuring data accuracy, reliability and security. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while managing multiple priorities.
 
- High-level interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative professional relationships with senior University staff and external stakeholders.
 
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis techniques is advantageous.
 
- An understanding of issues relating to educational quality in tertiary education is advantageous
