Research Assistant

  • Remuneration: $88,717 base pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading

Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at UNSW

UNSW Medicine & Health is a national leader in learning, teaching and research, with close affiliations to several of Australia’s finest hospitals, research institutes and health care organisations.

The Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health within the School of Clinical Medicine leads the delivery of educational and research activities aimed at the maintenance of child and adolescent health from the neonatal period until 18 years of age.

Details of the role

The Research Assistant is expected to contribute towards the research effort of The Paediatric Gastroenterology Research Group (PGRG) which is part of the School of Clinical Medicine and is located within the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. The PGRG works closely with the hospital Department of Gastroenterology and has a focus on researching paediatric gastrointestinal disease.

The role of Research Assistant reports to the Post-Doctoral Fellow and has no direct reports.

Some key skills required:

  • A degree or other tertiary qualification in Science, Health Science, or a related discipline.
  • Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research undertaken by the PGRG.
  • Administer, maintain and coordinate the logistical aspects of the research projects according to Good Clinical Practice and relevant Standard Operating Procedures, and monitor the progress of research activities.
  • Coordinate study recruitment and participants including liaising with clinicians, scheduling appointments, procedures and follow-up attendance.
  • Coordinate and maintain data collection and analysis systems, maintain research database and records, and develop digital data capture methods and Case Report Forms (CRFs).
  • Undertake laboratory experimentation including but not limited to ELISA, organoid culture, microbiological culture and RNA/DNA extraction.
  • Assist researchers with the preparation of ethics applications, research protocols, publications, grant applications and reports, and liaise with Ethics Committees.
  • Proven experience in data management and the use of statistical analysis software such as SPSS/GraphPad.
