The Data & Insights Lead will design and deliver data strategies that enable smarter decisions and ongoing improvement across UNSW’s Lifelong Learning unit. Blending big-picture thinking with hands-on analysis, this role shapes how data is captured, understood, and applied to guide the development of learner programs and digital products. While not managing a team directly, the role has strong influence across product and operations and reports to the Head of Product, Digital & Data.

This role reports to the Head of Product – Digital & Data and has no direct reports.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in and be responsible for:

  • Lead an end-to-end data strategy encompassing data collection, governance, storage, access, and usage across all Lifelong Learning initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of complex datasets (e.g. learner behaviours, product usage, marketing funnels) to extract insights that support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Produce clear, actionable recommendations and insights which are digestible and actionable to executive, management, and operational teams and individuals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g. product, marketing, operations) to define data needs and embed insights into decision-making.
  • Lead the design and maintenance of dashboards and reports using appropriate tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python) • Build data capability across the organisation through training, documentation, and support to enhance organisational data literacy.
  • Identify data quality issues and implement processes for ongoing improvement

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience in data analytics, statistics, mathematics, business intelligence, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading data strategy or analytics projects
  • Proficiency with analytical tools such as SQL, Python, R, Excel, and dashboarding software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
  • Strong verbal and written communication and storytelling skills — able to present complex data in ways that influence non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into data requirements and solutions
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
