About the Role
The Project Manager plays a leading and strategic role within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and President, overseeing the planning, development, and delivery of projects across the Division. The role will be focused on managing project workstreams to improve contractor governance and contractor health & safety management practices.
Key responsibilities include developing project planning documentation, establishing and guiding suitable project teams, and initiating and managing projects from inception through to completion. This includes leading stakeholder engagement, maintaining quality assurance, and ensuring projects align with the strategic direction of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and President.
The role reports to the Program Manager – Third-Party Arrangements Program and has one direct report.
The successful applicant will possess and have experience in:
- Lead the planning and implementation of projects and programs of the Division of the Vice Chancellor and President and facilitate the definition of each project’s scope, objectives and deliverables.
- Oversee and manage the delivery of Division of the Vice-Chancellor and President projects and initiatives to achieve operational and strategic goals.
- Manage project dependencies, risks, issues, change requests and financials and work with the project team to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place.
- Proactively lead and manage adherence to UNSW governance pathways to ensure projects are managed within a defined, consistent and proven set of rules for project development and implementation.
- Provide strategic direction in leading the Project Team and key stakeholders, monitoring and reporting on the progress of projects; and identify problems and propose possible solutions.
- Oversee and finalise effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the project Plan and provide influential input with stakeholders to achieve project outcomes.
- Identify, analyse, evaluate, and document business processes and the underlying business model for a system or process area.
- Develop and implement frameworks, improvements to Policies and Procedures, process guides and forms and templates to support projects and ongoing improvements to services and processes.
- Proactively lead the development of a Contractor Management Framework and development of a Policy on Engaging Contractors for Services.
- Collaborate effectively with the IT Project Manager, leads on other workstreams, the Program Manager, project owners, sponsors and stakeholders.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven advanced project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
- Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
- Strong experience in business analysis with demonstrated high level competency in the use of professional business analysis techniques and methods. (e.g. Use Case Analysis, UML and BPMN).
- Demonstrated extensive experience in business process design principles including process mapping and business process re-engineering.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
- Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
- High level of experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, such as MS Office, MS Project, Altus, JIRA, Confluence.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
