The Opportunity

The Faculty of Engineering, UNSW, has an opportunity for a Program Manager (Student Gender Equity). Working within the portfolio of the Deputy Dean (Societal Impact and Translation) you will take the lead on the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the faculty’s student gender equity initiatives encompassing women, non-binary and gender diverse students. Currently, the primary activity is the Women in Engineering Program (https://www.unsw.edu.au/engineering/student-life/women-engineering).

This Program will address barriers to access, and participation experienced by women, non-binary and gender diverse students who may have aspirations to become an engineer, including considerations of intersectionality, and provides opportunities to assist their success at UNSW Engineering. This role will work in collaboration with our other Program Manager (Student Equity) who focuses on students from low socioeconomic status backgrounds, UNSW Gateway Schools and regional and remote areas, and our Senior Program Officer (Indigenous Engagement), as well as Future Student Recruitment and other areas of the Faculty of Engineering.

Overall, this role will aim to increase the number of enrolments and reduce attrition of women, non-binary and gender diverse students.

This role reports to the Deputy Dean (Societal Impact and Translation) and has no direct reports.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience, preferably within the higher education sectors or working closely with individuals or cohorts from marginalized backgrounds.
  • Proven record of success in delivering complex programs to time and budget.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing regulatory and internal reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in measuring the impact of projects using monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) frameworks.
  • Extensive experience in project planning, management and design, issues resolution, stakeholder collaboration, risk identification, mitigation, and contingency planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience working with a range of stakeholders, including staff, students and technical specialists, to gather and document business requirements, facilitate workshops and conduct interviews.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet strict competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, managing people, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving complex matters.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and with influence across a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
