Why The Role Matters:
The UNSW Innovation Hub is looking to fill two Design Strategist positions. The Design Strategist plays a lead role within the UNSW Innovation Hub in the strategic planning, development, and implementation of diverse projects both within UNSW and in partnership with external entities. Key responsibilities include developing comprehensive project strategies, curating and facilitating effective project teams, and working closely with Project Managers, ensuring the successful execution of project outcomes. This includes stakeholder engagement, quality assurance, and continuous progress monitoring.
In addition to projects with clients and stakeholders the role involves strategic support for the delivery of the Hub's training, programs and initiatives working closely with the Hub Director, Manager, and other Hub staff. The Design Strategist will also cultivate and leverage strategic relationships with industry, government, and community partners to create pathways for implementation and knowledge translation.
Accountabilities:

- Work closely with the Innovation Hub Director and Manager to strategise, facilitate and deliver internal and external problem-solving projects that align with the Hub’s strategic vision and organisational priorities, including but not limited to:
- Design and provide consultation and facilitation for multi and interdisciplinary project teams to achieve innovative, real-world outcomes.
- Facilitate the definition of problems and develop problem solving strategies and processes while working closely with Innovation Hub colleagues, internal UNSW teams, and external clients and stakeholders to implement innovative solutions.
- Facilitate day-to-day project activities, including designing and delivering workshops, consultation sessions and overseeing production and implementation processes as needed.
- Lead project teams and stakeholders by providing strategic direction, monitoring and reporting project progress; and collaborating with teams to identify and resolve problems and conflict points.
- Develop and support effective communications with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the project and provide influential input with stakeholders to enhance collaboration and drive project success.
- Collaborate with the Innovation Hub team, build capability across UNSW by increasing the number of staff actively engaged in design-led methodologies and working on Hub projects, including but not limited to:
- Contribute to the creation, development and scaling of a design-led, problem-solving culture at UNSW.
- Collaborate with the Project Managers to oversee, deliver and implement UNSW Innovation Hub projects and initiatives to achieve strategic and operational goals.
Skills and Experience:
To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Design with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and professional practice.
- Proven track record as a Designer and Strategist/Consultant with expertise in design-led methodologies (including user research methods and usability testing) and broader problem-solving methodologies and how they can be leveraged within the project life cycle including planning objectives and documentation.
- Advanced written, verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts to diverse audiences and ensure a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Experience in Design education and in teaching design-led methodologies through active learning is an advantage.
- Demonstrated success in collaborating effectively on initiatives with diverse individuals and teams at all levels within an organisation.
- High level of experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Adobe Creative Suite, presentation software such as PowerPoint, Keynote and other relevant tools.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines using sound judgement and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and positively influence project cultures.
