Department of Molecular Medicine

The Department of Molecular Medicine aims to pair the brightest minds with the best research infrastructure under a tailored mentoring approach.

In research our core vision is to integrate across the scales how processes at the molecular level – the ‘bottom-up’ perspective of single-molecule research – drive function at the systems level – the ‘top-down’ perspective of cell biology and physiology, studied through the lens of modern biophysical techniques and principles. In line with the Health25 strategy, the Department of Molecular Medicine places the wellbeing and success of our people at the heart of our work. In doing so, we aim to foster a vibrant and inclusive research environment.

Why this role matters:

This position will contribute significantly to achieving the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty and will develop research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. This will include developing a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in or allied to the subject area of experimental biophysics with either a molecular or cellular focus. Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses as well as contribute to growing the research and education activities of the Department through leadership roles in education, research, and/or governance of the Department and/or School.

Key skills and experience:

  • A PhD in molecular and/or cellular biophysics or a related discipline and/ or relevant work experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with knowledge and developments in experimental molecular and/or cellular biophysics or closely allied subjects.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective biomedical teaching including course development, and delivery at undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outputs of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence, commensurate with discipline norms.
  • Demonstrated capacity for research leadership, i.e. supervision, production of high quality, high impact outcomes and success in obtaining competitive funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships
  • Demonstrated capacity for workplace or organisational leadership, i.e. sharing responsibility on organisation and/or governance of department, school, or faculty activities.
