Why Your Role Matters

The Business Analyst will play a key role in the successful delivery of strategic technology projects by the Student Systems and Projects unit, of the Registrar and Student Services portfolio. Under direction of the Senior Business Analyst, the Business Analyst maintains the relationship between the business and IT development teams and is responsible for delivering on the development and operational support (BAU) of the information management systems within their domain area of responsibility. The Business Analyst is accountable for analysing and defining requirements and identifying solution options for implementation, including integrations with other UNSW systems. The role will also engage in the project and change management functions, as well as continuous process improvement opportunities and knowledge management.

The role will report to the Senior Business Analyst and has no direct reports. This is a fixed-term contract until December 2026 (no guarantee of extension beyond that).

Main responsibilities Summary

  • Provide subject matter expertise, quality support and advice regarding the effective use, capabilities and constraints of Dynamics 365 and other relevant information management systems to inform prioritisation, delivery and maintenance activities
  • Support and drive a positive and services-oriented culture through effective stakeholder management
  • Investigate, analyse and document business requirements, functional designs and specifications and proactively identify and document areas for process improvement
  • Analyse, define, size, refine, prioritise and progress the relevant backlogs of work, ensuring impacts, risks and issues are considered
  • Work collaboratively to deliver against agreed priorities, ensuring outcomes meet user needs, and providing end-user onboarding and ongoing support
  • Build and execute validation test plans and work with the test team to ensure adequate test plans and testing prior to functional release to end-users
  • Develop and deliver operational and user guides, and end-user training, in alignment with any change management requirements

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values, has strong communication and stakeholder management skills and comes with:

  • Prior experience as a Business Analyst, ideally in the tertiary education system
  • Previous experience in a student services area or with an understanding of the student lifecycle would be highly regarded
  • Technical expertise in a range of systems and software such as Visio, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams and project management tools e.g. JIRA
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and any CRM. Prior experience with a student management system would be ideal
  • Ability to provide end-user support, and to design and deliver relevant training
  • Understanding of domain area processes and information management systems
  • Demonstrated experience in providing creative and innovative solutions to problems, analyse and improve systems and processes, and apply quality assurance frameworks to deliver continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated high level of attention to detail, including analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data
  • Proven ability to show initiative and to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment, as a part of a collaborative and multifaceted team

Working hours are generally Monday to Friday, business hours. The team works 3 days home and 2 days on campus. Occasional after-hour work is required to complete performance verification testing for release, including upgrades.
