The Opportunity

Join the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, UNSW, has an opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in an Education Focussed (EF) role. In this role, you will develop new teaching methodologies and deliver outstanding teaching and student experiences that lead to better graduates.

The purpose of this EF role is to enable academics to specialise in Aerospace Engineering education, devoting their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students. Those who are appointed to this prestigious specialisation will be expected to successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.

We are looking for someone with key skills and educational experience in the area of flight dynamics and control, avionics and aerospace systems, and aerospace structural design. 

This role reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports.

Skills & Experience:

Lecturer (Level B)

  • A PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related area.
  • Demonstrated track record of educational excellence in aerospace/space engineering, including but not limited to flight dynamics and control, avionics and aerospace systems, and/or aerospace structural design.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to deliver high quality and innovative teaching and student experience to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in aerospace engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Willingness to undertake any compliance and supervisor training as required.
  • Actively stays up to date with the discipline knowledge and development.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

  • A PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related area.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and development.
  • Demonstrated track record of education excellence in aerospace/space engineering, including but not limited to flight dynamics and control, avionics and aerospace systems, and/or aerospace structural design.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
  • Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
