Financial Services at UNSW Canberra manages all aspects of financial services and financial processing for UNSW Canberra. This includes, but is not limited to, budgeting, reporting, procurement, travel, expense management, billing, and accounts receivable. The team has a busy work environment with a high volume of requests from stakeholders.

Under the direction of the Senior Finance Officer, the Finance Officer position provides administrative support and assistance to UNSW Canberra staff and external customers, and acts as the first point of contact for financial services enquiries. In addition, the Position will contribute to the establishment, maintenance and improvement of systems and processes used by the Financial Services team to ensure the efficient and effective operation and service of Financial Services at UNSW Canberra.

Salary:                                  Level 4 - $70,920 - $74,812 plus 17% Superannuation 
                                            Level 5 - $77,356 - $87,532 plus 17% Superannuation
Term:                                    Full time, 35hrs

Responsibilities include:

Level 4

  • Review, process and enter financial transactions into the Financial Services information systems.
  • Answer enquiries from internal and external customers using judgment and initiative and applying a sound knowledge of financial services and UNSW policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the maintenance of Financial Services systems and processes.
  • Coordinate and undertake a range of administrative functions, including but not limited to, financial, travel and expense management activities.
  • Maintain filing systems, spreadsheets, databases, websites, and other administrative systems as required.
  • Assist other Financial Services team members as appropriate.

In addition to level 4, level 5 staff will:

  • Obtain, analyse, and prepare statistical and other financial information.
  • Respond appropriately to complex and detailed enquiries using judgment and initiative.
  • Develop and maintain filing systems, spreadsheets, databases, websites, and other administrative systems as required.
  • Coordinate and finalise returns for audit and other reporting purposes.
  • Prepare financial and other related reports and correspondence.
  • Ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled for tasks, projects and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.

Our Ideal Candidates:

  • Education Requirements
    • Completion of an associate diploma level qualification with relevant work experience, OR
    • Completion of certificate level qualification with post certificate relevant work experience, OR
    • An equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Experience in processing financial transactions using computerised financial packages, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with staff at varying levels of authority and external parties.
  • Ability to work in a team and build effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Level 5

In addition to Level 4 above:

  • Education Requirements
    • Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience as a graduate upon appointment, OR
    • Completion of an associate diploma with a range of experience including at least 2 years subsequent relevant work experience, OR
    • An equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated relevant administrative and/ or financial services experience, including previous experience processing both simple and complex financial transactions using computerised financial packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage complex tasks.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and proven ability to work with strict deadlines in a busy and varied office environment.
  • High level proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, and email, and demonstrated ability to learn and implement new systems.
