The School of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the largest and most prestigious schools of computing in Australia. It offers undergraduate programmes in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Bioinformatics, as well as a number of combined degrees with other disciplines. Our research and teaching staff are world leading and world building as they advance knowledge and learning.

The School has positions available for casual academics for lectures, tutorials, demonstrating, marking assessments and providing academic administrative support for courses in computer science and engineering.

As a casual academic, you’ll play a vital role in the teaching and learning experiences offered at the School. To ensure a positive experience for yourself, your convener and students be sure to: 

  • Be familiar with the subject and able to answer basic questions confidently and accurately. 
  • Attend the necessary training programs before commencing work 
  • Follow the UNSW Code of Conduct which deals with confidentiality, discrimination, health and safety, harassment, etc 
  • Conduct yourself as a professional: dress-code, language, punctuality, etc 
  • Provide demonstration at the highest standard possible 
  • Always follow the directions of your course convenor 
  • Contact your course convenors if you have any feedback on the activities, assessments and how students perform 
  • Meet the requirements of your contract and ensure you comply with the working hours allocated to you
  • Get help and advice when required 
  • Perform your health and safety duties 

The EOI portal will allow you to select which courses you would like to teach and the extent of your qualifications and experience so we can better assess your suitability.

Please note that you must have working rights in Australia and have an Australian bank account. Overseas applications cannot be considered. Casual appointments will be made on a term-by-term basis.
