Apprentice 

Fitter and Machinist (3 or 4 year Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity exists at UNSW Canberra for a 1st or 2nd year Fitter and Machinist apprentice. The apprenticeship is for 3 or 4 years (fixed term) (depending on being a 1st or 2nd year apprentice) and the successful applicant will undertake a structured training program on-the-job and at TAFE (Wagga Wagga). This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to work in a modern workshop equipped for general precision and computerised (CNC) machining, grinding, sheet metal working, general fabrication and specialised welding facilities.

The program will consist of on the job training at UNSW Canberra and classroom education delivered by TAFE, Wagga Wagga. The successful applicant will be required to travel to Wagga Wagga each month to attend a 3-4 day teaching block. 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, at commencement of employment, and must have a minimum of a Year 10 Certificate (or equivalent) to meet TAFE entry standards for apprentice tradesperson course (Fitting and Machining), with passes in Mathematics, Science, English and Industrial Arts.  Applicants require a demonstrated aptitude and interest in mechanical technology, metalwork or woodwork, a capacity to fulfil on-the-job training, be able to work as part of a team and be able to accept close supervision and instruction.
