The Higher Duties Research (HDR) Support Administrator provides a high level of service to all current and prospective postgraduate research students, and other stakeholders. This position ensures that Higher Degree Research (HDR) student administration is carried out accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner, with a focus on excellent customer service. This role is responsible for ensuring a smooth transition from application, enrolment through to graduation.

The role of HDR Support Administrator works closely with the Associate Dean (Research Training) and the HDR Coordinators. The HDR Support Administrator reports to the Research Manager and has nil direct reports. 

About the role

  • $71,451K to $80,850K per annum plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • 12 month Fixed Term maternity leave cover 
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)



• Oversee, coordinate and support all aspects of HDR processes and ensure outputs align with the Research Support goals and objectives of the unit and Faculty strategic plans

• Co-ordinate the assessment of local and international HDR applications

• Manage HDR student progression through candidature including admission, enrolment, variation to candidature, co-ordination of review panels, thesis submission and HDR completion

• Provide assistance with the Annual Progress Review coordination

• Work closely with the Research Manager to identify HDR training needs and develop strategies to meet needs

• Ensure a high quality service is provided to HDR students and student queries and problems are managed and resolved efficiently and effectively

• Maintain a database of students, their supervisors, review panel members and review panel schedule

• Ensure positive relationships with stakeholders are developed and maintained

• Participate in discussions within the Research Team to identify ways to support the research activities of the Faculty

• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other research focused UNSW departments

• Develop and maintain effective and efficient systems and processes relating to the administration of recruitment and admissions

• Provide advice and assistance to research students and staff on policies and procedures relating to research student administration

• Participate in projects and business improvement activities to streamline processes and facilitate efficiency 3

• Provide support to deliver activities that support the HDR student experience, including space management, inductions, events and engagement activities

• Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions
