The School of Chemistry is a leading centre for both teaching and research excellence in Chemistry in Australia – developing cutting edge knowledge to solve real-world problems. The School of Chemistry has a proud history, predating UNSW, beginning at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts in 1833. The School teaches more than 2000 undergraduate students each year from many different faculties, and offers four different undergraduate programs leading to majors in chemistry that are taught in 5 teaching laboratories specialising in First Year, Synthetic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry.

About the role

  • $71K - $80K plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  •  Fixed Term until 27 Dec
  • Full-time 35 hours per week

The Project Officer is responsible for providing effective and efficient project management support and administrative and office management services to the School of Chemistry.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent competence gained through another combination of education, training and experience
  • Knowledge of project management principles and ability to deliver projects within agreed timeframes and budget
  • Well-developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with and influence diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong time management, office management and organisational skills, ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and delegate as required (if relevant).
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound analytical and problem-solving skills and proven experience in business improvement activities
  • Demonstrated experience working on confidential and sensitive matters and demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact as required
  • Sound computer skills, in particular, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, relevant databases and web maintenance software (if relevant)
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
