About the role

  • A$91,755 - $ 99,306 plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed term contract (2-year contract, immediate start)
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

The Electronics System Engineer – Biomedical Implant (Bionic Eye) will be responsible for critical tasks relating to design, testing, characterisation and implementation of a visual prosthesis for the blind. Along with writing critical software to send commands to an implantable device through a set of pre-defined instructions. Interaction with chosen fabrication houses to ensure on-time and error free construction of circuits, components, etc., as required by the project objectives.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will:

  • A degree in electrical engineering or similar with a depth of subsequent relevant experience in all aspects of system design or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding and proficient experience in Schematic, PCB layout and simulation.
  • Proven experience in mixed analogue-digital circuits and systems design, implementation, troubleshooting, testing and characterisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in circuit design, software and firmware development and implementation with sound knowledge of principles of neuromodulation or communications.
  • Extensive experience in software and embedded systems development, particularly;
    • C language programming
    • VHDL language programming
  • Proven experience in FPGA implementation.
  • A working knowledge of Unix, shell programming languages and hands-on circuit implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations, working with self-motivation in a sometimes-ambiguous environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
