The Kirby Institute is a leading global research institute dedicated to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Established in 1986 in response to the then emerging HIV epidemic, the Kirby Institute now contributes to knowledge on a broad range of diseases, including viral hepatitis and sexually transmissible infections. 


About the role

  • Level A or B $73K-$121K plus 17%  superannuation and leave loading
  • Fixed Term for 3 years
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

The Associate Lecturer/Lecturer will conceive, design and implement diverse research projects in the areas of epidemiology, population health, public health, and interventions. Part of this role will be to ensure the capture, quality and integrity of different types of research data, including as part of a large database used to monitor blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections nationally. The Associate Lecturer/Lecturer will help foster and maintain the collaborative relationships that underpin health research, including with diverse partners from the research, government, health and community sectors. A key component of the role will be to design and undertake analyses relevant to the research interests, and contribute to the overall academic cultures of The Kirby Institute’s Sexual Health Program and its Surveillance, Evaluation and Research Program. Responsibilities will initially be focus on needs of the TTANGO2 program and will be broadened to other projects as required.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Graduate level qualifications in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or a similar relevant field (Level A)
  • Experience developing and overseeing the implementation of study protocols
  • Experience working with a statistical analysis package (e.g., SAS, Stata) is required
  • Experience working with data extraction software and databases systems (e.g. Grhanite, SQL) is required
  • Postgraduate qualifications (PhD or equivalent) public health, epidemiology, psychology, biostatistics or a similar relevant field (Level B)
  • Demonstrated experience working with large datasets (Level B)
  • A track record of academic writing and presenting
